Heartfelt thanks to Mike, for jumping in the boat and going on this river journey with me and these songs. How wonderful to emerge on the other side with a new friend. My thanks also to Julian, Adrian, Txai Fernando, Dylan, Helen, Biz, Mum, Ayla, Alix, Lizzie, Elad, Moshe and Seb and many others for all the support. Thanks to all the secret inspirations that are woven in these songs. And as always, I am in awe and gratitude to the source of these songs. One of the seed ideas for this recording was to embrace the songs’ elemental nature - their rawness, their roughness, their natural force; to offer them a home without taming or containing them too much. There is a beautiful circularity in reflecting on how the instruments used to make these elemental sounds are in themselves borne of specific trees, goats, cows and other animals, plants, seeds and shells, of the sun, rain, soil and wind, and I want to thank them from the bottom of my heart for the gift of their lives.
